Can I share with you something curious from the distant past?

When the Romans invaded the Kingdom of Macedonia and defeated King Perseus in the Battle of Pydna, Macedonia was then divided into four republics. Those republics were heavily restricted from relations with one another and other Hellenic states.

The Romans did that to weak the kingdom and thus to rule it more easily.

That’s the so-called “Divide and Conquer Policy”…

It’s a handy concept that has a wide application in many fields.

For example, we have “Divide and Conquer Algorithms” in programming. Basically, we take a complex problem and break it down into small easy-doable tasks. It’s much easier to think about the small tasks instead of gazing at the “big picture,” not knowing what you should do next.

How is this concept applicable with a technical SEO spin?

Well, if you want to know if your website is optimized, you have many approaches to check it out.

You can open your sitemap and start auditing each and every URL with a tool like Lighthouse or Google Pagespeed Insights. Yeah, I’m almost hearing your “Booo!” in my head. It’s madness. It will take forever.

But you can also divide and conquer…

You can group your pages by type, choose a couple of URLs from each group, and audit only them.

So if there are archive pages, short post pages, long post pages, video post pages, product pages, product category pages, etc., it doesn’t matter how many pages in total your website has.

You can analyze only 10 or 12 of them.

There is still a probability some of the pages to be scoring poorly if audited, but that’s why you have Google Search Console. After the initial optimization, it will show you which indexed URLs are considered to offer a bad user experience.

Cool, right?

And there is more…

My soon-to-be-launched free tool, BuhalBu’s Kit, helps you apply the divide and conquer concept very easily. Actually, I created a special type of audits that allows you to enter the URLs of different page types and then analyze them in bulk.

What’s even better:

You can view your scores, return to apply more optimizations, and then recheck them with a click of a button.

It’s a huge time saver!

Of course, you can apply the “Divide and Conquer Policy” manually. It’s up to you. And no matter how you do it, I believe it will serve you very well.
